![]() I spent the entire "free trial" period evaluating Adobe Premiere and found that this period was not long enough to convince me to buy into the Adobe ecosystem - so they lost a sale. Having a "free" option is a great marketing tool - I wouldn't have splashed out the money for Fusion and Resolve studio editions if I hadn't had the opportunity to fully evaluate them first. This is my plea to save the free standalone Fusion option and I hope I am not alone! I am a huge advocate for Fusion and I just don't want to see the standalone option go away when I know vfx vendors are starting to build their pipelines around it again. Is there a chance Fusion 9 free standalone will be maintained to utilize in future OS updates? This would be a shame to not introduce node-based compositing to students who want to enter into vfx, but when the free version is no longer an option, I may not have a choice.Īlthough it would be nice to have a Fusion 16 free option, Fusion 9 works pretty well for entry level artists. ![]() I am worried if the free Fusion standalone version is not maintained as an option, I will be forced to move to After Effects, which the school and students already pay for. Those that liked the work are likely to purchase the studio version after graduation. The Fusion v9 standalone free version was a perfect tool for teaching students and entry level artists, allowing them to do High Quality VFX for their first projects. Additionally, I will not ask my students to purchase $299 Fusion Studio for one-semester to try out for the first time when they already purchase Adobe CC for their other classes. These actions are not part of the workflow in the real world. No editing or Color tabs that add extra steps to the process, like when using Fusion within Resolve. I teach VFX fundamentals in an industry standard pipeline, which relies on a standalone version of the VFX software working on single VFX shots one at a time. Unfortunately, VFX compositors at VFX vendors do not work inside an editorial program, like Resolve. I of course was ecstatic when Blackmagic revitalized the program, integrating it into their offerings. I teach Fusion standalone as the main VFX software in my courses as I have used it professionally as an artist since 2001. I was wondering if anyone else is concerned about the free version of Fusion standalone not being offered after v9, thus potentially when the next OS upgrade occurs, it will not be able to install.
